Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated for the emancipation of those who were slaves in the United States. This celebration originated in Texas and is celebrated annually on June 19 in most of the United States. The celebration dates back to 1866, and initially included community gatherings centered around the church in Texas. The celebration spread across the southern United States and became more popular during the 1920s and 1930s.
