The characteristic features of a T independent antigen include:-

  • There is no isotype switching Which means antibody response is restricted to IgM and IgG3.
  • It can be bacterial cell wall components Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), Capsular polysaccharide or flagella.
  • Antigen processing is not needed.
  • There is no immunologic memory.
  • Activation of both mature and immature B cells.
