Droplets usually fall to the ground or surfaces without being transported through the air over long distances. Less commonly, people may be infected by touching the eyes, mouth, or nose after touching a surface contaminated with the virus. The susceptibility of infection is highest within the first 3 days after the onset of symptoms, with the possibility of disease transmission before it appears in asymptomatic patients.
