Low-dose aspirin is used as antiplatelet as it is sufficient dose to inhibit platelet function by acetylation of the platelet cyclooxygenase (COX) at serine529 that prevents the access of the arachidonic acid to the catalytic site of the enzyme at tyrosine385 and lead to an irreversible inhibition of platelet-dependent thromboxane formation.
